The Elgin Image Commission is preparing for this year's Elgin Recognition Awards. These awards are presented posthumously to individuals that have made a significant contribution to the City of Elgin. The Elgin Image Commission seeks to honor individuals in the categories of Architecture, Arts, Business, Communications, Education, Government/Public Service, Military Service, Science/Medicine, and Volunteerism.

In previous years, the Elgin Recognition Awards have recognized:
- George P. & Mary Lord, community philanthropists having contributed to Sherman Hospital, the YMCA and the Academy. They also funded Lord Park and its pavilion.
- Gail Borden, who was influential in continuing the City's dairy reputation while also becoming the founder of a patented condensed milk process.
- David C. Cook, the founder of the nation's largest interdenominational religious publishing house.
- B.W. Raymond, who was a Chicago capitalist instrumental in bringing the railroad and watch factory to Elgin.
- James T. Gifford, the founder of Elgin
- Carl H. Parlasca, organizer of the Song of Hiawatha pageants
- Trygve A. Rovelstad, nationally recognized sculptor and artist
- B.W. Raymond, a Chicago capitalist instrumental in bringing the railroad and watch factory to Elgin.
- Hattie Griffin, an Elgin educator for more than 50 years who helped establish music, art and physical education programs in the schools.
- William Grote, a businessman who was instrumental in bringing business and industry to Elgin.
